A powerful late surge by China in the second half of the opening fixture of the 6th Asia Cup Women’s Hockey Tournament being played in Hong Kong today, 1 September 2007, saw the event favourites cruise to to a 7 - 1 victory .
Earlier a stubborn and at times brilliant defence by by the unfancied Malaysians held China to 2 goals to nil lead at half time Tang Chun Ling scoring in the 8th and 11th minutes.
The second half started in similar fashion with China on the attack.
Then in the 47th minute Hashim Norbaini sliced through the Chinese defence to score an outstanding goal to reduce the deficit to just one.
but that proved to be wakeup call for China with Song Qing Ling scoring just three minutes later to open the floodgates as the plucky Malaysians wilted under sustained pressure
