1st Classification match, Malaysia vs Chinese Taipei.
 
Result: Malaysia 3 Chinese Taipei 0
 
Tournament 5th ranked side Malaysia took control of the opening classification match against Chinese Taipei played this morning, 8 September,at Kings Park to win by 3 goals to nil after leading 2-0 at half time.
 
The Malaysian goals came all from penalty corner conversions by Catherine Lambor, Norfarahah Hashim and Nadia Abdul Rahman in the 14th, 17th and 52nd minutes respectively.
 
Defending grinly from the outset, the outgunned Chinese Taipei squad managed only the occasional breakout into Malaysian territory with their best chance of scoring coming the 28th minute as Lin Ching Yi missed a golden opportunity when she could not control the ball in her shot at goal with just Malaysian keeper Ernawati Mahmud to beat.
 
The second half action saw a very similar pattern of play with Chinese Taipei defending while the Malaysian forwards probed for openings.
 
After the 3rd Malaysian goal in the 52nd minute, the side appeared to relax and now look forward to their next encounter that will be for the 5th/6th place  against the winners of the the day’s second classification match between Hong Kong and Thailand. Chinese Taipei will play the losers of that match to decide 7th/8th positions.
